A Method That Brings the Pieces Together

Our method

Dovetail is both our name and our method. It is originally a term that describes how in fine carpentry pieces are joined together so that they fit together perfectly. It has developed into a theory in negotiation techniques to identify differences in interests or priorities between the parties in a negotiation. This is to be able to make strategic decisions based on these differences to create value. Based on this theory, we have created a method for public affairs.

Every client is unique and each assignment has its own character. We do not believe in any standard solutions, but together with the client tailor each assignment to ensure a team with the right skills and that we use the parts of the method that are required to achieve success.

Mapping/Analysis

Mapping and analysis work is the very foundation. In this phase, we develop the stakeholder map and analyse in depth the underlying strategic interests of the political actors and what the policy needs to achieve its policy objectives. The stakeholder map in the form of mapping and analysis then becomes the starting point for the strategy and the company's own positioning.

Strategy/Positioning

Strategy and positioning is about creating a strategic focus for your own work. Based on the analysis, we develop a strategy for how we should deal with different actors and how other issues have bearing on our work. Based on this, it is decided which position we ourselves should take in order to achieve success and add value to the issue and society.

Anchoring/Activation

For a successful activation, political support is key. Our experience is that there is often a faster path to success through a good anchoring process. Once activated, there is a wide range of tools to ensure that one's own issue is given space through and concreteness by, for example, preparing a bill memo for political leadership.
